What I’m Reading

I’ve just finished the highly entertaining book of short stories by Delbert Horrocks, Slightly Corked, published by The Watchdogs of Merriment, 2017. Horrocks invites his readers into his “strange, hilarious, and wacky world.” As Horrocks states in the Introduction: “The book grew out of a wine column… but for the most part the stories are about more than food and wine. Motorcycles, battleships, annoying commercials, pampered tomatoes, bran muffins, cat litter – the usual concerns for a guy my age.” Slightly Corked is intelligent and well written. As I read, I realized he had written this book especially for a very specific crowd, me included. Readers will find little gems gift wrapped in each story, including references to events, people, and products that only people of a certain age would understand. Tripping on these jewels is like finding well-hidden Easter Eggs, but instead of a treat for your taste buds, it’s a delight for your funny bone. I highly recommend Slightly Corked. You can only purchase a copy directly from Horrocks or from the Eden Gardens gift shop.
